چکیده
Abstract OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the extent of participation barriers in patients with pediatric posterior fossa tumors (PFTs) at long-term follow-up. While most studies focus on pathobiological variables that promote occurrence adverse late effects, present analysis aims to investigate importance environmental variables. METHOD: Ten years after tumor diagnosis, 42 (mean age: 17 years) treated our neuro-oncology unit were assessed for school and social difficulties using a questionnaire developed within framework this study. Participation assumed if and/or their parents reported or peers. The children adolescents classified into groups adequate limited participation. Potential (treatment type, hydrocephalus, recurrence, gender, age seizures, cerebellar mutism) risk factors (parental maternal education, siblings, primary language, discrepancies between personal values, regular physical activity, private housing) identified examined see differed amount factors. RESULTS: Almost decade treatment, two thirds had difficulties. Not only (type mutism seizures), but also (low education level, main language other than German, irregular activity) associated These discriminated significantly without barriers. CONCLUSION: PFT are frequent. In addition variables, play an important role limiting underlines fact sole consideration pathobiology is not sufficient when examining effects. adoption biopsychosocial perspectives future inevitable.

The Clinical Challenges of Pediatric Posterior Fossa Tumors
Pediatric brain tumors occur mainly in the posterior fossa. Clinicians encounter numerous difficulties and challenges in establishing the diagnosis. Symptomatology varies according to the location of tumor, its rate of progression, and the age of the child. Most of them are usually nonspecific and misinterpreted as common benign childhood disorders. Consequently, a significant delay arises betw...

Fossa Syndrome in Pediatric Patients We read the article of Miller et al with great interest. OBJECTIVES To determine lumbar spine and total body bone mineral density (BMD) in pediatric patients who have undergone cranial or craniospinal irradiation for posterior fossa tumors, specifically medulloblastoma and ependymoma and to analyze the association between degree of osteopenia and factors that may affect BMD. METHODS Retrospective and prospective data collection included medical rec...
متن کاملmanagement of hydrocephalus in posterior cranial fossa tumors
treatment of hydrocephalus in posterior fossa tumors in children is still a matter of controversy and different centers have their own routines. in this regard, hospital records of all children with posterior fossa tumors treated in our center during the interval of 1985-1995 were reviewed. patients’ demographic and diagnostic data were analyzed and the frequencies of shunting procedures were d...
متن کاملChanges to memory structures in children treated for posterior fossa tumors.
Children treated for medulloblastoma (MB) exhibit long-term impairments in declarative memory, but the pathophysiology underlying this is unclear. Previous studies report declines in global white matter volume, but have failed to link this to declines in memory performance. We examined the effects of treatment on measures of global brain structure (i.e., total white and gray matter volume) and ...
